Preservation Restoration Maintenance
CARS & MOTORCYCLES
Bringing original parts back to a fully functional life without disturbing patina.
As close to new as possible is the goal, recreating correct finishes, and using renewed original parts or new old stock.
Keep it functional. On the street or track, it has to stay together and keep you confident that the fun ends when it gets safely put away.
I am familiar with a wide variety of cars and motorcycles; all brands and ethnicities, and all ages. From 1993 until about 2011, I worked for Munroe Motors, a fast paced motorcycle dealership in San Francisco, CA. Their franchises included Ducati, MV Agusta, Triumph, Moto Guzzi, Husqvarna, KTM (for a few years), and a whole host of other brands from time to time dating back to 1958. I learned from Jim Munroe as a mechanic. Motorcycle technology evolved in leaps and bounds during my tenure there, and I was exposed to all of it. We had a successful racing team and provided excellent service to customers throughout the USA and elsewhere. I enjoyed the racetrack and building race bikes, and I always had some type of restoration project going, too. One of the highlights in my experience there was an assault on the Isle of Man in 2005 with Tom Montano and an MV Agusta F4 1000. We came home with a silver and a bronze replica. Pretty good for a bike I had uncrated in California 1 month prior to the starting line, almost half a world away.
Cars were always in my periphery while I wrenched on the bikes. My regular cage for a long time was a 1968 Porsche 912. I have many fond memories of that machine with and without the wrenches. I worked for a stint at Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley, CA. My appreciation for German engineering grew even more, there.
From 2012 to 2016 I managed Bowman Motors’ collection of fine automobiles and motorcycles in San Carlos, CA. This exposed me to a lot more racing cars and cars of all eras the likes of Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Jaguar, various Shelby animals, a whole host of American muscle. The motorcycles were well represented, too. My job there was to exercise and care for all of the vehicles. Everything was ready to roll either on or off the track, whenever the boss requested it.
Since the end of 2016, I have been at it on my own. My wife and I decided to move away from the San Francisco “Pay Area” and find a better quality of life. We found Astoria, Oregon. I’ve been wrenching on mostly older machines; a lot of Triumph, Norton, and various other motorcycles. I’ve also had various car projects through the shop, including an MGA with a Volvo P1800 drivetrain, a Rolls Royce S2 Silver Cloud, a few Sunbeams, Triumphs and others. My shop is open by appointment. I’m in there working most weekdays and some weekends. You can reach me through this website or at jamie@karrickmotors.com.

Preservations and restorations can be lengthy and expensive. We can design a schedule of service to suit your needs. Your project can be done all at once or in stages.
Maintenance and short term projects are welcome as well. Keeping your vehicles in a ready-to-go state is important. Your vehicle is better stored when it is fully functional, but also, who wants to get to their vehicle and not be able to use it? It should be ready to use at all times! I can help you to keep yours that way.
Tires and other wheel parts, spark plugs, air filters, oil filters, and oils, wear items like brake pads and clutch plates, even door jambs are all items on your vehicle that can help to monitor its health. Periodic maintenance on old and classic vehicles is the easy, fun work that owners should hope to enjoy for themselves. However, if you cannot do it yourself, Karrick Motors will happily execute on a regular basis, everything from basic oil and filter change, and ignition tune up, to oil and filter inspection, and careful inspection of other systems throughout your vehicle. Having a regular, careful look at everything is cheap insurance.
